County Council Passes Stormwater Retrofits Bill!

On July 24, 2012, the Prince George's County Council unanimously passed CB-40-2012, enacting the Stormwater Retrofits Bill! The bill is a key part of the Prince George's Healthy Communities Coalition Action Plan and will improve quality of life in the county by giving property owners incentives to reduce stormwater runoff that floods our basements and pollutes our neighborhoods.

Special thanks to County Councilwoman Mary A. Lehman (District 1) for her leadership in introducing this bill. In a press release after the bill's passage she said: “I appreciate the support of my colleagues, and the broad support of municipalities and environmental groups, as we continue to work together with the community to improve water quality, position the County to meet new federal water quality standards, and create green jobs.  Passage of this bill represents our commitment to both clean water and community engagement in Prince George’s County.”

Member organizations of the Coalition are excited about the opportunity CB-40 provides to work directly with citizens to create healthy communities in every neighborhood of Prince George's County. Here's to a healthier, cleaner, and greener future for all county residents!
